Hi guys. I ordered this system off use ip in November 2022. And haven’t updated anything manually.
It seems very slow at the min at catching movement and my hikconnect app is slow like takes ages to load only as of a few weeks ago.

Pic attached of the models of devices. I did go on the nvr and check for updates but it says it’s up to date. I have automatic updates on….. Assume there maybe other ways to update it via usb?

Thanks

Hi @Kilojade

Your NVR firmware is several versions behind.

One of those newer versions is the major V5 firmware, which significantly changes the NVR's user interface. Below are firmware versions we would recommend updating to in steps (e.g., one update at a time - do NOT update straight to the latest version).

V4.63.006
V5.03.000
V5.04.020 (find under Resources > Firmware)

For the cameras, the latest firmware is V5.7.19_241207 which you can update straight to.

Unfortunately both of those latest firmwares have fairly major issues.

NVR 5.04.020. No motion detection indicators in playback timeline. No motion detector indicators in Hik-Connect (filter returns no results). There are other issues but those are two that will make it difficult to search and find events.

G5 Camera 5.7.19. Dual VCA doesn't work and so if you need to retrospectively perform a motion, intrusion, or line crossing search to find something that didn't trigger a preconfigured rule, the NVR will return no results.

With the above in mind I wouldn't recommend updating the NVR beyond 5.03.010 and the cameras beyond 5.7.15 to avoid the issues.

Currently Hikvision releasing new firmware that resolves all issues is about as likely as peace on earth in 2025.

Thanks for info guys much appreciated.

Right so to be clear I should update nvr to the 006 then again to 000. And don’t go the one after that that’s 020

And camera I can only see the 5.7.19 on the hik site? Can’t find any others?

I only use the cctv just for playback on motion alerts. And Live viewing on monitor. It’s just house cameras nothing high tech like but always worked perfect on current software but lately very slow

There is another version in between for the NVR and thats 5.03.010. It's becoming more difficult to locate previous firmware versions. The UK and EU firmware portals used to have all previous versions but now they're rarely up to date. If you need 5.7.15 it's here on the UK portal:

G5 5.7.15

And 5.03.010 for the NVR is here:

M Series 5.03.010

As said the camera issue would stop you from searching for something crossing a line by doing a search on screen (doesn't affect events that you've setup). The NVR issue is worse as it would stop you seeing the red markers for your motion events on the playback timeline both locally and on the Hik-Connect app. Going no further than the versions I've linked will mean you won't see those bugs.

Be prepared though...the newer UI on the NVR is difficult to navigate and confusing for most.

Edit: I'm not sure what's making your system "slow" but I doubt the update will help. There must be something else going on there with your config or settings.

Thanks mate just ordered a usb stick off Amazon then so soon as it lands will download and update

When I say slow it’s the hikvision app that’s slow like if I click on the app and want to go straight onto a live view it just loads for about 8 seconds. Says no cameras so I have to swipe the app down to refresh the page so it loads them up. Bit strange. Have deleted app and reinstalled it but no change

No USB stick needed. You just do the updates using a web browser navigating to the NVR IP address to do the NVR. For the cameras ensure you have 'Virtual Host' enabled in the NVR settings (Network > Advanced Settings) and then you can access the cameras either by the links on the Cameras page while logged into the NVR or by adding :65001 on teh end of the NVR IP for cam 1, :65002 for cam 2 etc. Plenty of guides on this forum.

Sounds like a networking issue. The NVR connects to the HIk-Connect server, the phone app connects to the Hik-Connect server. If the network connection is poor you will see these issues. Common causes:

- NVR connected by a WiFi adapter or powerline adapters to the router (when those devices are not performing optimally)
- Double NAT - When a third party router or mesh WiFi has been plugged into the internet providers router/hub without putting that providers router into bridge mode/modem only mode.

Thanks mate I did what u did and updated the nvr easy! Top man! I have been trying to update the cameras now but just can’t find how to anywhere! I wish I updated camera before updating nvr lol as remember seeing option for it but can’t find option for cameras on the new version will keep digging

Thanks for all help guys. Massive help! I did it all updates :) Still trying ti figure out what’s wrong with the connect app. These 2 pages attached they just load for about 10 seconds before they come on. But this only started as of a few weeks ago nothing has been unplugged or changed from WiFi area for months. These nvr is plugged direct into the nvr via lan. We have good speed broadband. I replaced the lan cable just incase but no difference. Strange… I may try deleting the app and logging in via qr code on the new system see if that works

Where it says no cameras there is it just takes 10 seconds to load them

Show the Network Settings page from the NVR

What is the setup of your network? Do you have a single router with the NVR connected to it directly or does it connect via a network switch. Are there any other routers or just what was provided by your ISP?

Hi mate…: Single sky hub max router with pod boosters… it’s plugged directly into the router. As the router is on a different shelf just 10” away. No other routers. Haven’t ever changed setting for nothing so can’t see it being a setting. Attached pics?

Change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the second DNS server to 1.1.1.1

Hik-Connect works best when using a public DNS server (8.8.8.8 is Google's, 1.1.1.1 is Cloudflares's). Setting it to 192.168.0.1 forwards DNS requests via your Sky Hub, which in turn will use whatever DNS server that Sky uses.
