Kieran updated Hikvision Firmware Update for DS-2CD2x42FWD IP Cameras with a new update entry:

version 5.4.4 build 161125

This is a small firmware update for the 2x22FWD, 2x42FWD and 2x52 R6 series of Hikvision cameras which introduces and improves a few features.

In particular, many users in the GMT timezone will be pleased to hear that the iVMS 4500 push notifications have been improved and seemingly fixed.

New features:
  • The third stream is supported.
Improved features:
  • Auto focus is available when zoom is adjusted manually
  • The exposure settings would not be...

God this is painful, bought a camera thats UK spec and
its not playing ball upgrading the firmware. I'm using a netgear prosafe POE switch and not an injector.

According to the Systems Settings page the model is "DS-2CD2342WD-I" and I'm on "V5.4.1 build 160525". I've tried to use the 5.4.4 link on here and its going to the "update failed" message that others are seeing. I've tried using static IPs instead of DHCP and it didnt work. I've plugged the PC into the POE switch and that didnt help.

Seems like the links on here for the intermediate firmware all take you to 5.4.4 :(

Cant believe how hard it is to update this thing, made worse because I avoided getting on from those far east retailers for exactly this reason. Is there any way to identify if these are grey imports?.

Box is indeed red/white. All text is in English and the serial appears "good"

* changed by me, was only numerical digits

Sure you have the right firmware? Why do you upgrade to 5.4.4. (5.4.5 is the newest firmware)?

Here is the link: DOWNLOAD PORTAL

I thought you had to upgrade in steps?. Well i tried that one and it fails too

No, only for upgrading e.g. 5.2.x --> 5.3.x --> 5.4.x, so 5.2.x-->5.4.x is not allowed.

Within e.g. 5.4.x range, you can update directly.

Try to place the digicap.dav directly on your desktop.

Didnt help, I am using windows 10 pro and maybe thats the problem?. Turned off firewall and turned off AV (kaspersky) with neither options helping.

moved it to c:\ and now its working! :)

Hmmm...strange...i have 6 of this type cameras and no problems with upgrading.

Anyone that have the release note for v 5.4.5 DOWNLOAD PORTAL ?
The .zip file don't contain any information.

Updated my cams - only visible change is that hikdns now unsupported and authentication/verification enabled for hik-connect.

I just tried updating my second camera in the same way and it wasn't working. What I found worked was simply setting camera to "default values", setting PC to static IP on same subnet, and then via IE running the update (with AV off). Worked first time after that. Just in case some comes across this issue in the future.

Hi Soren,
Isen't the 2CD2x42FWD included in 2CD2xx2FWD Series? I have updated my 2CD2x42FWD with this f/w.
If you say that .5 build 170124 is a newer version than .41 build 170309, then you have to explain that more in detail for me. Does Hikvision have some special way to count their builds?

V5.4.0 build 160530
V5.4.3 build 160902
V5.4.4 build 161125
v5.4.5 build 170124
V5.4.41 build 170309

On the official european download portal, there is no 5.4.41 firmware: DOWNLOAD PORTAL

Seems that the 5.4.41 was a quick solution to solve the vulnerability issue.

I think there is a mistake on the build date, the 5.4.5 was released in march too...

Okay, strange. Could it be that it should have been 5.4.4.1 ?

Are there any new functions in 5.4.5 that we don't have in 5.4.41 ?

I found a US Readme.txt

****** IMPORTANT - MUST READ and FOLLOW ******
Please check your current device firmware version before upgrade:
Scenario 1- If the version falls into the range from V5.2.0 build 140721 to V5.4.0 Build 160530, you need a 2-step ugrade process. Note, if the step was skipped, your device may fail to operate normally.
1) update to V5.4.41 build 170310 FIRST, reboot
2) update to v5.4.5 Build 170123, reboot

Scenario 2 - If your firmware is newer than V5.4.0 Build 160530, you can upgrade to V5.4.5 Build 170123 directly.

For HiDDNS user:
Please note, if you're using HiDDNS service connected directly to this IP camera, please upgrade to v5.4.41 build 170310 only. Starting v5.4.5 Build 170123, HiDDNS service is no longer supported but Hik-Connect.

This one seems to say that 5.4.5 is the latest in some way.

I have now upgraded/"downgraded" eight of my DS-2CD2142FWD-IW & DS-2CD2442FWD-IW from 5.4.41 to 5.4.5.

They now have hik-connect access & the encoding version 7.3 & web version 4.0.1 also have newer dates. So it must have been som kind of build naming issue, or something.
