I’m thinking of buying a hik vision doorbell (not sure which one ) as I’m fed up of paying ring subs which keep going up and up … so I have some questions…

1/ Are they wifi .. because all my 8 ports are used on my nvr
2/ does do the same functions as the ring doorbell in terms of use
3/ does it work with the hik connect app
4/ is it subs free
5/ which doorbell should I buy

Is there anything else I need to think about ?

Hi
1) doorbell don't connect to NVR, you can use 12V adapter and router (or PoE switch)
2) if you use doorbell without indoor unit, you can recieve call and answer/open doors through mobile app
3)yes it does ( DS-KV6113 and KV8113)
4)what do you mean by subs?
5)you can only use DS-KV6113 and KV8113, those two can connect to hik-connect without mobile app

You need to think about power cable and adapter for electric bolt on your doors, outdoor unit only has relay

Hi @shw and @KamirZG ...

The doorbells Kamir mentions are PoE ... better than Wi-Fi if you can get the necessary cabling in... they have more reliable connections than Wi-Fi doorbells and do have more capabilities like indoor stations and opening doors.

Hikvision does have the DS-HD2 doorbell which is Wi-Fi and works with Hik-connect... I have one recording 24/7 to my NVR but you will probably have an issue if you are already have 8 cameras on your 8 port NVR... in order to connect/record a doorbell to your NVR you would need to turn off one of the PoE ports so a channel can be allocated to the doorbell.

The DS-HD2 functions more or less like a Ring doorbell but you can avoid subscription fees by recording to an NVR 24/7 or inserting a cheap micro-SD-card to record just events... best to do both as the Hik-connect app notifications won't show the recordings from the NVR as events otherwise... let us know what NVR you have and if you will be able to free up a port or not, and whether PoE/wiring is an option or not... then we can give better advice.

DS-HD2

Uh oh, as I went to attach the link to the DS-HD2 I realized it may only be available in the US and Canada? I guess let us know your "region" too.

I use a dumb doorbell which I hook up to my smartthings so I get a notification on my phone then I can use my hikvision camera to talk. No subs, just a capital outlay

Hi,

Based in UK. For the primary reason of removing the £49.99 yearly Ring subscription, I'm looking at options to do exactly the same so would appreciate your advice.

Current Setup:

Ring Video Doorbell Wired (the smaller all black casing version)
2 x DS-2CD2347G2-LU Fixed Turret Network Cameras connected to a Hikvision DS-7604NI-K1/4P NVR (so 2 free ports)

The Ring doorbell is connected to an Amazon Echo Show 5 and alerts if motion is detected at the door (handy if we're not in close proximity to our mobile phones) as we don't have a doorbell chime.

We are already using the Hik-Connect app. on our phones (both iPhones) so ideally something that works with that (hence thinking Hikvision doorbell). Ideally Wi-Fi but could in theory get an ethernet cable to the doorbell (although would be a bit of effort).

In summary, we would want to receive notifications, answer, communicate through the Hik-Connect app. and ideally still receive a notification on the Echo Show. So potentially alerts on three devices simultaneously. All footage would be recorded to the NVR.

Have been looking at the DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) and DS-KB6403-WIP but not fathomed if these are suitable. Reading robbietobbie's comments, as one of the fixed cameras covers the area of the doorbell I could do the same, i.e. keep the Ring doorbell (for real time notifications and two way conversations) and cancel the subscription, I could retrieve any footage via the NVR but am somewhat reluctant as the footage won't be as clear as it covers a wider area and would unlikely capture faces etc. (unless they looked up at the camera).

Thanks in advance for any help / advice on this.

  • The DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) can be used wireless
  • Notifications would be received through Hik-Connect (you can share it to other Hik-Connect accounts if necessary)
  • You can answer/reject calls, 2 way talk through the app
  • You can edit one of your spare NVR channels to manual, input the IP address and record the feed from the doorbell.
The notification on the echo show might be possible if you add Hik-Connect to it. I had issues when side loading Hik-Connect onto Fire HD devices. Often the notifications wouldn't work so I deleted it in the end.

Thanks for the advice, sounds like its all straightforward with the exception of the Echo Show. Can the DS-KV6113-WPE1(C) be wired off existing doorbell wiring? i.e. do the + and - from the transformer go into the 12 VDC and GND on the diagram?

If you've definitely got a permanent 12V DC supply there you're good.

Hi there,

If you're looking to replace your Ring doorbell and avoid ongoing subscription fees, Hikvision is definitely a solid choice. They offer a variety of doorbell cameras with features like two-way audio, HD video, and cloud storage options, which can be more affordable long-term than subscription-based services.

We highly recommend looking into Hikvision's DS-KB8112-IM or DS-KH6320-WTE models, as they offer great reliability, high-quality video, and support for local storage. You can also integrate them with your existing security system, which could be a convenient option if you have multiple cameras already in place.

As an accredited Hikvision installer, we at Alert Pro specialize in setting up and maintaining these systems, ensuring smooth installation and access to any necessary technical support. If you need any guidance on setting up or choosing the right model for your home, feel free to reach out.
