Hi there

Apologies if posted in the incorrect section.

I have a hikvision CCTV system, with an NVR in the loft.. When it was installed the company connected the ethernet cable to a TP-Link WiFi extender.

Always found it hit and miss when it comes to loading, and sometimes just disconnects from the extender.

As I now have mesh wifi, I thought that it would be more stable and easier to plug the ethernet cable that was into the TP-Link WiFi extender into the mesh wifi node, however it doesn't seem to work.

Not sure if there's anything in doing wrong, I thought it would be quite straight forward, would rather make use of the mesh wifi if I can than keep using the WiFi extender if possible.

I use TP-Link Deco M4 mesh, both for ip cameras, PC and other devices. Any of the boxes (satellites) can act as routers. You may be using a different make and model, so I don't know if my scheme works for you.

"All" cameras run on 2.4ghz, so mesh must be able to either choose between 2.4ghz and 5ghz automatically, if not it must be chosen manually.

Both the mesh network and the internet provider's network will be visible as connection options on a PC or other devices. One of the boxes must be connected to the router from the Internet provider with a network cable if you always want to use your PC on the internet through mesh. (Also if cloud storage of video recordings is applicable.)

I have chosen to connect all my wi-fi devices through the Deco M4, and it works great. I can connect my NVR with a cable to any box.
All the cameras will be given new IP addresses by the mesh system.
What you can try is to connect a PC to the mesh. Download an IP scanner, I like Angry IP Scanner. All (hopefully) cameras and NVRs will appear with a green circle on the list. Open a browser and enter one of the IP addresses. If this is not NVR, try the next address. See under Network settings if you have to enter a password or make other changes. Maybe you have to get the NVR to search for the cameras, mine does it automatically. Unfortunately, I don't remember if I had to change anything regarding passwords on the cameras.

Deco M4 will still run and record to NVR even if you lose connection to the internet.
