Camera Not working - POE Ethernet Port to Unmanaged Ethernet Switch

Hai All,

We are facing an issue with our Underwater Camera - (Linovision IPC608UW-10 with 75meter cable) with POE and Ethernet Switch.

Camera is powered by POE - (RedLion EB-PSE-24-1B, Single Pair 4wires) and camera was working well with this POE port and its Ethernet port only.

When we connect the POE's Ethernet port to an Ethernet Switch (Moxa - EDS 208 & Siemens Scalance XB005) for including this camera to a common network to monitoring the whole system. We cant able to ping the camera.

Could you please suggest/guide us to solve this issue.

A ping is a pretty basic test, and if even that is not working then the camera/cable may have failed

Camera and Cable are ok. Because when we use the same setup with POE switch it was working.

While we connect the Ethernet switch to the POE's Ethernet Port then only it was not getting the Camera.

Please see the Attached image for more clarification of our issue.

So kindly suggest to solve this issue.

Try loading SADP onto your laptop and check to see whether it is able to find the camera in both configuration scenarios.
I guess it's related to IP addresses.
You don't mention/show whether the switch is part of an existing network, perhaps it or a connected router is managing the network IP addresses and issuing the camera with an IP address which your laptop is not currently in the same range as?
SADP works at a very basic level - it should find/see the camera and report its current IP address to you.

Ethernet switch was the existing one.

Our camera and the POE switch is the added newly one. In the existing system there is no routers to managing the network address.

We will try SADP, but the thing is camera has a Static IP, we only configured the Camera IP to static and it was working with the POE switch directly.

Our only issue is through Ethernet switch we cant able to get the camera?

Is any other reasons behind this issue?

Moxa Industrial Wifi AWK-1131A for connecting through wifi.
But we tried without this device also.

Are you using one of Moxa's recommended PSUs to power the switch?
It seems to be quite power-hungry

We have a separate power source from the Battery Banks, 24V...

The Moxa switch is working good... We checked internally.

Are you perhaps using a crossover network patch lead when you connect the laptop directly to the POE injector?
(and not replacing it with a standard patch lead when the switch is in use)

We didn't use the crossover cable.

From POE's Ethernet port to Ethernet Switch was a straight cable and Ethernet Switch port to Laptop also a Straight cable.

No.
You should always use a standard straight patch lead between network devices nowadays.
We used to use crossover cables when directly connecting devices e.g. camera to computer.

You've got me 'clutching at straws', it was just a possibility that came to mind.

I assume that you are using factory-made (bought) patch leads?
Not cables that you have terminated yourself.

Till now we used only Standard Straight Cable for All ethernet connections.

Also we bought the Ethernet cables from market not a customized by ourself.

The switch is an unmanaged model, therefore there should be no setup nor configuration issues.
Have you tried other ports on that switch?
Perhaps try an alternative switch?

Have you loaded SADP on the laptop yet?
Can it see the camera?

I can't really suggest anything though. In the 2-switch configuration where the camera and laptop are the only devices on the network then...
Given both switches are unmanaged, if the camera is assigned a static IP address and the laptop is assigned a static IP address on the same subnet, then I can see no reason why the laptop could not ping/connect to the camera.

Some devices don't reply to ping, but if you can ping the camera in the 1-switch config then of course it should reply to ping in the 2-switch configuration.

In the 2-switch configuration without any other network: what do the activity lights show? Check the laptop ethernet port, the normal switch and the PoE switch activity lights - are they all flashing indicating network activity? Or is one or more port lights not lit or solid lit (indicating no network activity).
