Questions about constant bit rate

Hello, good afternoon.

I have three Hikvision brand cameras, and I have them all set to constant bit rate at the highest rate.

Two of the 8 Mpx cameras I have are working according to the configuration I have set, one is the DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL model and the other is the DS-2CD2087G2-L model.

But the last camera that I acquired of 4 Mpx model DS-2CD2347G2-LSU/SL also has the constant bit rate, but I see that in the statistics of the switch, when it changes scene it continues doing the same as when it had the variable bit rate. All the cameras are updated to the latest firmware and I have rebooted this last 4 Mpx camera just in case it was a wrong configuration. But it still shows the variable bit rate.

All of them are configured with the bit rate constant and at maximum. Why doesn't the 4 Mpx camera send its maximum bit rate constantly?

Hi @Robertomcat

We've never seen this ourselves and I don't believe it has been reported by anyone else, but this is probably because it seems to be happening overnight when most users wouldn't be monitoring their bitrates.

Are you able to share screenshots of your stream & image settings for the 2347G2 camera?

I mentioned the drop happening at night, do you have the white light enabled? If you do have it enabled, is it set to auto or schedule switch?

These are the two scenes I use for day and night, and in both of them I have the switch off.

The recording system is the Synology Surveillance Station, and the camera is compatible with Surveillance Station. But I understand that the camera is the one in charge when you apply its configuration.

Hi @Dan

And for the last 24 hours it has been doing the same thing, when all the cameras have the same settings. I don't know what I'm missing.

Hi @Robertomcat

So just to confirm, you do have the 'Image Parameters Switch' set to switch between Back Light & Low Illumination settings? Does that image schedule align with where the bitrate rises & falls?

Do you have exactly the same 'Image Parameter Switch' set on the other cameras?

Hello, good morning. Yes, the bit rate change coincides with the scene change, the two scenes I am using are "back light" and "low light". And these two scenes are being used in both the 2CD2347G2-LSU/SL and the 2CD2387G2-LSU/SL, they don't match the times, but the scenes are the same.
