Playback/live view issues with my Hikvision cameras and NVR?

Hello,

A while back I purchased 4x Hikvision DS-2CD2387G2-LSU-SL-B and the DS-7608NI-I2/8P NVR to go with them. The cameras have been good, but I have been battling with playback/recording issues with there been gaps in footage and playback problems. I have tired downloading the footage through the web client and have found it to be the same. I find that playback through the app rarely works with 'Device streaming time out' error message always popping up.

I think I have tried everything to get the cameras to record normally and even reviewed footage which I have downloaded (through the web client) but to no avail. I am still getting gaps in the footage. After finding this forum I believe my NVR to be under powered for the cameras as the incoming bandwidth is only 80Mbps.

Can I get some advice on which NVR I could upgrade which would fix these issues and future proof it for additional cameras which I plan to add soon? Is it possible to activate features such as ANPR and face capture through these cameras? Is there any way you can access the footage on the NVR through an ethernet connected directly to the NVR rather than having to use the web client? Could I have some recommendation on which hard drive is best, I currently have a Seagate SkyHawk 4TB Surveillance?

One thing to check before discussing changing the NVR, can you please confirm the current firmware of the NVR and the cameras?

Hello Dan,

The current firmware version is V4.61.030, Build 240123 for the NVR and V5.7.14 build 231028 for the cameras.

You can try updating the cameras to v5.7.15 240411 to see if that improves them on the I-series NVR.

If not then we would recommend upgrading the NVR to a DS-7608NI-M2/8P as the bandwidth limit of the old I-series NVR could be part of the reason why you are seeing problems with 4 x 8MP cameras on that NVR.

Hi Dan,

When trying to update the cameras it seems they are already on the latest version. Would i have to manually update the firmware?

I think it's best that i upgrade but would the DS-7608NI-M2/8P ( i think i'll go for the 16 channel to future proof) enable feature such as face capture and ANPR? Is there any way you can access the footage on the NVR through an ethernet connected directly to the NVR rather than having to use the web client?

Hi @Imperior96

Yes, the auto-update function doesn't always show the latest firmware so you would need to download that firmware file linked above and manually update the cameras by logging into them.

Yes, the M-series will support ANPR & Face Capture but ANPR will require a specialist ANPR camera and if you enable Face Capture on your 2387G2 cameras it will disable all other Smart Events on those cameras.

If you are already accessing the NVR with a browser then you are accessing it "through an ethernet connected directly to the NVR", the only other ways to access your NVR would be using a direct HDMI monitor or Hikvision desktop software iVMS-4200 (Hikvision has improved the browser access for their M-series NVRs).
