Hi guys,

I am setting up a CCTV and am thinking of doing the following setup. Does this seem right? Are there any complications that I might be missing?

1- The NVR that I am going to use does not have POE port, so I need a POE Switch
2- Is there any chance of data loss in this setup?

The following hardware is used
1- POE Switch
2- POE Extender
3- Active POE Splitter
4- NVR (from an unknown company)
5- I am going to use Flat ethernet cables

Why do you want to use this NVR & Camera kit?

Looking at your plan above, it would be far simpler just to get 4 x PoE cameras and remove the splitters from the system (especially as looking at the Victure cameras it's unclear if you can even hard wire them, they look to be WiFi only).

Thanks for replying.

I already purchased this NVR and camera kit a few months back but then got busy doing other stuff. The cameras need a power supply only since they are wifi only. But to provide the power supply, I need a splitter, as I want to avoid a lot a cabling :(

Okay,

At a basic technical level, the layout you have planned should work but with the networking products you're looking to use, there are several potential problems.

PoE Switch - The switch you are looking at has a max. PoE output per port of 30W, which means the maximum amount of power you can provide to the Extender is 30W and this then needs to be split between 3 cameras which could possibly require more power.

PoE Extender - The specs for this state 30W for ports 1-3 but when you look closer it states that the individual ports have a max. PoE output of 8W (totalling 24W across ports 1-3). This is already possibly not enough power for the cameras and then add the fact that with each Extender you add into your system the wattage and data output will drop and so at 150-200m you might not actually get even 8W of power.

(also, looking at the reviews on Amazon, there are lots of negative comments about these Extenders including several who say the extenders failed after a couple of weeks/months).

PoE Splitters - If these were to receive enough power then they should technically work but as explained above they potentially won't receive enough power for the cameras. Also, were you planning to connect these Splitters directly to the barrel plug on the camera's pigtail? If so, you would need to mount the cameras to electrical junction boxes to protect the camera's pigtail and the Splitter from all weather conditions.

Can you provide more details of the installation site? Are there no mains power sources closer to the cameras that you could connect them to directly?
