IP Camera can't connect to laptop or see on laptop using a mobile hotspot?

Hi,

I cant get broadband where I live I am having to use smartphone mobile hotspots. It seem that I can only connect to one or the other.

When I look at the IP properties I get for the mobile hotspot

You may need to form a network, with a router or switch with DHCP on to manage the IP addresses / routing?
A router that accepts a 4G SIM card may be a better route.
Seek local advice about a suitable router and SIM for IP camera access.

I just brought a USB generic universal router. It works for my internet and the camera but I can only use one either camera or laptop cant connect both on same network they are both in different IP ranges. Cant connect using V380

That should work, there could be IP address conflicts with other devices. WiFi hotspots should use DHCP to assign IP addresses to the clients, better to use that.
Most hotspots are short range devices (within the same room) with poor penetration through plasterboard / brick walls. Also the hotspot may lack the processing power to handle multiple camera video streams, you may have to reduce video resolution.

Hi Poppy,

Using DHCP would be better.

Make sure your cameras can be physically factory reset. If there is a problem accessing the camera after the IP address change you will need to do this. Your camera may only offer factory reset from the web gui. Post a web link to the camera model you are using so I can check the specs etc.

Logon on to the hotspot you are going to use and post a screenshot of the network setup page. If available include the DHCP server settings. This is not available on some hotspots. At a minimum I just need the hotspot router IP address and subnet mask.

Poppy,
Your Sony Xperia5 may not perform as you expect it to. Smartphone WiFi hotspots may only allow 1 or 2 devices to connect, Bluetooth maybe 3 to 5 devices. Your best option is the USB WiFi hotspot dongle.

After going through the thread I suspect the main problem is the initial WiFi connection that is needed before true network connectivity is established. A fixed IP address will not solve this. Setup an open (no wifi password needed) hotspot wifi network and try connecting your laptop and camera. Also the SSID Xperia 5_6803 has a space in it, some devices do not like this.

They are in a different ip range 192 the other 162 I need them to be in 192 to at least give it a try. I have ordered a new camera to try I have a wifi router but its the ip ranges I am going to look at changing that and see how I get on. Thanks Poppy

Looking at this YouTube video and seeing the camera ssid MV46192373, I think your camera is a hotspot and expects devices to connect to it. The camera needs to be in wifi client mode to connect to another hotspot.

Can you connect your laptop wifi to the camera and try to logon to the camera web gui at 192.168.1.20?
