Now that the QNAP is installed on the server and your first camera is connected (see our handy guide if you require assistance with this), we can add a hard disk to the QNAP to start recording footage.
For this you will need:
Pop the front cover up.
NOTE: This can be a bit stiff and may require some considerable force- be careful not to pull so hard that the casing snaps!
Pull the case out.
Now unpack your hard disk and prepare to install.
The hard drive fixes into the cage using 4 flat t-head screws that are provided with the device.
When installed it should look like this:
Now insert back into the QNAP and securely lock it back up.
Now return to your computer, log into your QNAP and go to the Quick Configuration page.

Now follow the steps and on the last page click << Start Installation >>. This can take several minutes- be patient!

Now click on the device config button and this page will appear:
As you can see, we already have one one hard disk installed and formatted for the QNAP and have a second that is installed but not yet formatted. Hard drives must be formatted to work with the device. Click the << Format Now >> button in the same row as the drive you would like to format.
Now click on the tab to the left that says 'RAID management Tool', which will lead you to this page. Here you can configure your hard drive as you wish them to save. Select the drive that you would like to migrate using the select box next to the drive name. Once selected click << Migrate >> which will bring you to this page:
For the purposes of this tutorial we are going to mirror hard drive one and two so that the second disk is used as a back-up of any footage we have captured. This means we select the one hard drive that is available and << Single Disk Volume - > RAID 1 Mirroring Disk Volume >>.
The hard disks will now migrate.
NOTE: This can take some time. It is suggested to perform this task overnight when the QNAP is not in use.
Now that the migration is completed, your hard disks will look like this. In this case, Disk 2 is now a back-up of Disk 1.
For this you will need:
- QNAP NVR
- A Hard Disk
- Qnap Security Keys

NOTE: This can be a bit stiff and may require some considerable force- be careful not to pull so hard that the casing snaps!
