looking to buy new Hikvision NVR

The model i am looking at is DS-7716 NXI i4

Running down the specs sheet i note decoding capability is 16ch @1080p 30fps

does that mean i can only play 1080p video despite have got all 8mp cameras.

Now if i look at the DS-7716 NI-i4 spec sheet that shows decoding capability 4-ch @4K 16ch @ 1080p.

So is the DS 7716 N1-i4 the better machine

Hi @dodge

Decoding is the number of cameras you can simultaneously view/playback at a certain resolution, so when it says 16ch @1080p 30fps that means you can view 16 cameras split screen at 1080p. This makes sense because even if the NVR had the processing power to do 16ch at 8MP you wouldn't be viewing an 8MP/4K image because each camera would only be taking up 1/16 of a 4K monitor.

Are any of your 8MP cameras AcuSense or ColorVu? Are you planning to add any 8MP AcuSense/ColorVu?

We ask this because we have found the 8MP AcuSense/ColorVu do use much more bandwidth per camera (around 20Mbps each) and this means you can have issues running 16 x 8MP cameras on 16ch NVR. Hikvision has just announced the new M-series NVRs which support more incoming bandwidth, so if you are going to be using lots of 8MP AcuSense/ColorVu now or in the future we would probably recommend waiting and going for one of those models.

Thanks for that.
None of the are cameras are AcuSense or ColorVu
On the DS-7716 NI-i4 it says i can view 4 cameras at 4k
But on the DS-7716 NXI i4 it only quotes 1080p no mention of 4k
for 1 camera or 4
Regards

It will most likely be the same 4 at 4K for the NXI model they just haven't clearly stated it (Hikvision often do this)
