New cam still working perfectly. Old cam was crap. The "other" forum has a post about corrupted partitions on the cam that can't be cured, causing problems. In any case, as always, my posts are meant for posterity for anyone encountering similar problems.

@maionline, I've got several DS-2CD2387G2-LU's on 5.7.17 and "supplemental light" toggle is there - if that helps any.

I've been using a similar camera, a 2455, for about 5 years. It's never set off an alarm after being powered on. I didn't even know it was capable of doing that. They're super easy to take apart. Open it up and rip out the buzzer/speaker thingy.

Kinda makes you miss the "obsolete" I-series, doesn't it?
