Hi all,

I have seen many guides and videos.

some say you need to forward, 80, 8000, 554 and 443

some say just 80, 8000 and 554

...and in the past I have gotten away with just 8000, and 554?

so what is correct for Hikvision cameras and Hikvision NVRs please?

thanks

That depends. If you're sticking to the standard ports then it's 80 (http), 8000 (server), 554 (RTSP), 443 (https) all TCP. Whether you need to forward 80 and/or 443 depends on whether you wish to be able to access the web interface of the NVR or camera from outside of your LAN and whether you will use a standard or secure connection, which is why you've been ok with just 8000 and 554.

The ports can be changed in the NVR to different numbers and I usually do this to avoid illegal login alerts, as using the default http and server ports makes it obvious your network is hosting a CCTV system. So best practice would be change the port numbers in the NVR (or single camera) to something different that won't clash with anything else - then forward those to the internal IP address of your NVR (or single camera)

If you're not using an NVR and are using more than one camera on your network - you'll need to use different ports in each camera and create port forwarding rules for each. If your router supports port mapping then the cameras can use the same ports and you can just set different source and destination ports in the router.
