Thumbnails still greyed out for latest Hik-Connect and latest firmware?

I'm new to Hikvision cameras (just got mine a couple of days ago). I've been able to figure out everything except for two annoying things:

I've installed the latest firmware: V5.7.18 build240826 and I have 2 iphones and 2 cameras: DS-2CD2443G2-I(W)

1. Thumbnails are empty in Hik-Connect, but the notification thumbnails are fine. The thumbnails are generated in the camera, so why would they work for notifications but not for the recordings? I've tried viewing on 2 different iphones, one with a fresh install of the latest hik-connect app. There seems to be no setting for this. I have SSH access to the box... is there a way to look around? Hikvision seems to make the SD cards rather unreadable if inserted in a PC, but I haven't pursued this. It appears that there is no known fix... is the problem in the firmware? It seems an easy thing would be to "upgrade" to an earlier release when this first broke... Did it break in the app or the firmware?

2. My second problem is in this video where the ISAPI stream paints about 200 pixels ABOVE the box it is supposed to be in. See this video for details but you can see it in the image here where you are not supposed to see the black canvas and you see it because the stream is being painted too high. This happens on every page with the live stream.

Anyone seen this? Workaround is loading page in incognito (or from a different chrome account or a different browser) but I fail to understand what breaks this as I've emptied my Chrome browser cache, emptied local storage, reset the chrome flags, set page cache off, rebooted, restarted chrome, did a hard reset on the page load (when dev tools is up you can do this). I have the URL sequence (.har files as well as the sequence in .csv files) for the working vs. non working cases and there are some calls made in the non-working case:

They include URLs such as these which appear to be related to region position of the stream:
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/streamingCoding/channels/1/regionPosition?format=json
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/streamingCoding/channels/1/regionPosition/capabilities?format=json

as well as:
http://hikvision-1/SoftwareLicense.txt
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Video/outputs/channels/1
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Video/outputs/channels/1/capabilities
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Video/inputs/channels/1/privacyMask/privacyMaskCap
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Network/PPPoE/1?security=1&iv=16ed0ba3f6322c8e13a187f1f0d456ac
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Network/interfaces/1/capabilities
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Network/interfaces/1/dynamicHostName/capabilities?format=json
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/Network/interfaces/1/dynamicHostName?format=json
http://hikvision-1/ISAPI/System/discoveryMode

Why a reload of the page would make different calls is still a mystery.

I have a workaround which is to use another browser, go incognito, use a different user, but I'm really curious as to what kind of setting causes this since this is the ONLY website that has problems.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'thumbnails are empty in Hik-Connect'. Which ones?:

- Home Screen thumbnails.
- Specific camera 'Event Message' thumbnails beneath the live stream while viewing
- Notifications screen thumbnails showing all events

With regard to browser support I think it will always be hit and miss. I'm no expert on the inner workings of web servers but with so many different browsers and those browsers being updated regularly, some change may break functionality or give expected results. Camera and NVR firmware has a 'Web Version' which gets updated along with the firmware. If something changes in a browser version, it may require a new 'Web Version' and therefore new camera/NVR firmware.

Thumbnails on the Playback on the iPhone on Hik-Connect

Hikvision support said I should load the browser plugin which I already did, so they are clueless too. They didn't seem interested in fixing the bug.

Here you can see the playback thumbnails are blank, but notification thumbnails are fine.

OK that makes sense now. I've never used those thumbnails but they're blank on mine too so I guess that's broke. They don't work for any of my camera models connected via the NVR.

wow. Do these work for ANYONE???
It's unlikely unless it's mobile device specific. I'm an Apple iOS user, not sure if it's the same for those using Android.

You've tried it direct to your model camera; I've tried it on several models of NVR with different models of camera connected and none work.

That seems pretty lame that it can't generate thumbnails. Am I missing something?
