Hi
I have hikvision cameras installed, all with SD cards. Can someone please explain what these actually do within the cameras. I understand they record, but what the difference between recording on the HD and the SD card? Why do they have SD cards?
Cheers

Hi
Yes I understand what an SD card is.
1) why have them in my cameras, and what do they record which is different to what's recorded on the HD?
2) why have them and what's their prime role when you have a HD in the NVR
3) how do I access what's on them.?

Ah, I guessed you were somehow getting confused between Standard Definition and High Definition.
Hard Drives are generally referred to as HDDs - Hard Disc Drives.

You can record to both, at once.
It gives you duplication / extra security - in case the NVR is stolen.
Although, we find it is mostly either/or that people choose, rather than both.

You can access what is recorded on the microSD card by logging-in to your camera and accessing Playback.

Yes, I guess I should had stated micro SD card and HDD as the hard drive.
So from what you saying when you select playback, are you accessing the HDD or SD card? I have both on my NVR.
Also, I assume the SD card gets rewritten when full?

If you login to the NVR and select playback - you are viewing its HDD.
If you login to a camera and select playback - you are viewing its microSD card.
Yes, by default, the card (or HDD in an NVR) is overwritten once full.
