I am looking for someone who knows what they are doing at very technical level to sort my cctv. I’ve spent 1000s and still have problems. Several hour now spent this by someone else and still have issues.
I’ve got a 16chan IDS NVR running on a dedicated ee 4G network, 5 x 4K cams, 1 ANPR and one PTZ.
Can anyone be recommended?

Hi Phil. Not sure why your reply has gone. I have the email notification.
In short it’s meant to be one of the top spec NVRs, far beyond normal domestic spec.

Hikvision - IDS-7716NXI-I4/16P/X 16ch Face Recognition 4K NVR with16 PoE

Sorry, I deleted my own Post.
I misunderstood what you meant by an IDS NVR.
I thought IDS was a brand I had never heard of.
I realised my error as soon as I clicked Post, and deleted it - Doh!

That should be a good, strong NVR.
What issues are you seeing / needing help with please?
And, where in the world is the site please?
Step one would probably be to update the firmware on all the devices, and if that does not go smoothly then a visit to site might be needed.

So the firmware was updated by me around 3months back. The guy I had hired to do initial config spent 2 hours on it and wasn’t aware the firmware update for this particular NVR was on the Hik product page (neither was I until the supplier told me) and not on the portal. Upon him applying the one from the portal all the POE ports stopped working and the NVR appeared dead out the box. I will check the version I’ve got against the product page. This left me 2hours deep in labour and still didn’t have it working. He had 2 further hours on it once I’d done the update and got everything up and running myself.

Issues are largely around playback and vehicle detection.

Currently I have the NVR as mentioned. This running off a TP link Cat 6 router which is on the EE network. I’ve tested throughput on the router and packet loss. Even when running a packet loss test well beyond the level 4K a video would need, the loss rates are low. Furthermore I can use the WiFi from this router to stream full 4K video to a smart tv in another room without issue. The data speed are consistently above 25-30mbps both way, with a sub 30ms ping speed.

I’ll start with the ANPR. It’s a DS-2CD7A26G0/P-IZS-8-32MM and according to info posted on this site should be well capable of capturing and identifying plates on traffic doing above 100mph. In my case I’m not going ever have traffic passing that quick. But 80-90 isn’t unusual.
The camera will not detect above around 65-70 and will ping a ‘no plate’ email for traffic between roughly 55-65mph.
However, if footage is played manually by searching for it, the plate can always be read perfectly and car clear as day. This is a real jar off for me as I’ve always had issues with the 4K front facing camera not detecting passing cars at night. I was told an ANPR would be the only way to solve this issue.
The capture rates at lower speeds

Front facing cams are all 4K on the G2 platform; liveguard darkfighter, colurvu with audio record and liveguard colorvu.
All of them fail to detect fast traffic at night. And will often miss slower stuff. Have had several instances where for example the milkman backs on the drive. The footage in the notification will start with him already backed on the drive and out of his van.
All the cams are cracked up to run highest frame rate and video quality. I did also turn the bit rate right up on the liveguard colur by to try and get better video quality. The NVR should have enough capacity for near on 20kbps per channel. The playback of this cam however isn’t consistent. It will often playback fine when nothing is happening ing in the scene. But if a car comes by, you’ll hear it approach and just before it comes in to scene the footage will freeze and eventually display an error message. You can leave it it day and come back and try again and it’ll still not play. But other videos will play back fine on the cam immediately before and after trying the troublesome bit.

I tend to find the 4K darkfighter doesn’t give what I’d call a 4K image and isn’t anywhere near as good the Colorvu’s. A number plate in a notification from a colourvu will often be near on clear to read below 40mph. But just a blur on the Darkfighter.

The other real pain in backside is my PTZ. It’s a DS-2DE4A425IW-DE(S6). Now interestingly the one I’ve got was shipped from factory with smart tracking. It isn’t great however. It will often lose the target and the camera will spin around a few times and return to its preset. More often than not any notifications I get will, the footage will either freeze completely and show an error, or play one frame every 10-15secs.

Work must be really good in the run up to Christmas in the CCTV world. Would have thought someone would have been all over this, sitting at home remotely fixing the problems. Kinda says a lot of about installers confidence in Hikvisions systems really..

Can you please share a screenshot of a number plate capture that the ANPR camera fails to read?

Sorry for the delayed reply. I tried to upload the videos directly and was unable to. I then found myself unable to create a new file in OneDrive. I should have been in product testing given the number of faults I find with tech on a daily.
I’ve added some ANPR videos and stills. Also some footage from the so called smart cameras (acusense darkfighter and colorvu). Which are utter poo for producing notifications at night and barely miss a trick during the day.

Without making any changes the ANPOO has re focused itself and zoomed out resulting in a shit image.

So at 8am (with no power cuts) the whole system has gone down for a couple of mins. Upon rebooting its screwed up the ANPR image.

What do you have the 'focus mode' set to in the camera? I haven't used ANPR but I would probably set it to manual so that it cannot refocus automatically.

[undeleted this Post, as it turned out to be quite relevant :) @Phil]

I have a fair bit of experience with Hikvision ANPR and I have found it best to only set the camera to auto-focus temporarily when setting it up (in daylight hours) so it focuses and then set it back to manual focus. If you keep it on auto or semi-auto you can get the issues you reported - e.g. if it boots up in darkness or it gets water or something on the lens it can set the focus wrong and it then seems to stay wrong.

I have not had any issues with the zoom level changing, only if using iVMS-4200 software the zoom level can be changed by a mouse wheel so it's very easy to nudge the mouse wheel without realising it and messing up your zoom.

I don't have any high-speed cars to worry about as mine are on corners but have you tried adjusting Exposure Time? I set all mine to 1/2000 46 Gain. Not for vehicle speed but to reliably capture plates at night. The downside of that is the camera image is pretty much 100% black at night (but I have non-ANPR cameras in same places to cover general day/night recording).

I posted regarding the auto focus setting (suggesting fixing on manual once set) but deleted the post when I read the comment about Zoom level changing. I have seen that occur on 2.8 - 12mm Darkfighter bullet. Every time there's a power cut or the mains is off, it initialises to the fully wide setting on power up. There's no menu setting for that so it's frustrating.

Is there any possibility of mounting the camera for a better viewing angle?
So that vehicles drive more directly towards or away from it.
At the moment they are crossing the scene in only a few frames.

Hi all, and thanks for all the help and advice over the last few months. I finally have good news to report. I’ve been in touch with a specialist over the last few months. Last night he was kind enough to do a night session in order to see first hand the issues with my ANPR. He made a number of changes to the settings and seems to have nailed it! We were testing last night going by as fast as I dare and it caught me everytime, crystal clear!
He also got on my PTZs and performed to same voodoo which craft on them too and the image quality is 10 times better! Very happy with the system now! Finally feels at the level I’d expect after having spent several thousand on kit! :-)
