Remote Access - in part

I have a new DVR DS-7608N1 K2 8P

I can access this remotely on my mobile phone and iPad however, I cannot access this on my laptop.

When the system was set up, it worked on my laptop - at home. However, when I take the laptop away with me, some 200 miles away, it wont log-on. When I come home again, hey presto - I can log-on!

Is there some security somewhere preventing this logging on from a remote router or internet?

How are you trying to log on when away?
If you have only a local IP address et e.g. something like 192.168.1.100 then it'll only be able to connect to your NVR when your laptop is on the same network.

Then what is the point in me having a fixed IP address if I cannot access my security system remotely?

How do you access from your phone & iPad please?
i.e. do you use an App?
