Hello, I have a problem with playback on a DS-7708NI-I4 / 8P where it will not display the recorded footage even if I am only trying to playback one camera. The system currently has 4 cameras but when adding a fifth this problem happens where I am unable to playback footage from the any of the 8mp cameras (Channels 3,4 & 5) but I can still view footage from the 4mp cameras (Channels 1&2)

I have seen this message before on live view and know how to change to sub stream to get around this problem but how do I fix this problem on playback?

Does anyone have an idea on this one please? I am stuck at the moment :(
I've not seen an issue like that before. The only time you usually get the 'not enough decoding resource' is when you exceed the NVRs decoding capability by playing back too many streams simultaneously. Try using H265 rather than H265+ on the 8MP cameras and see if that makes a difference.

Hi,
  • 2-ch @ 12 MP (20fps) / 4-ch @ 8 MP (25fps) / 8-ch @ 4MP (30fps) / 16-ch @ 1080p (30fps)
Decoding capacity isnt very good. Try reseting NVR and try again but follow this.

I actually had them on just H265 not plus so decided to try the H265+ to see if the lower bitrates helped but they didn't

As I understand it, the he higher the compression level, more processing required to decode:

H264 > H264+ > H265 > H265+

H264 - lowest compression, highest bit rates required, uses most storage, less processing resource required to decode
H265+ - highest compression, lowest bit rates required, uses least storage, more processing resource required to decode

I tend to use H265. H265+ has historically caused image issues for me and storage cost is a lot lower than it was, so I'd rather increase storage than potentially impact image quality. I'd probably rather use H264, but that's not an option, as 8MP cameras at 25FPS have a higher bit rate requirement at H264 than you can set on the camera.

It would be best to bring your cameras firmware up to the latest version. Looking at your list, only channel 4 is current.

DS-2CD5546G0 'ultra' bullet cameras - latest version for those (H3 platform) is 5.6.12
DS-2CD2386G2-ISU/SL - latest version is 5.5.801 (assuming it's a G3 non c model - if it's a G5, 5.7.12 as below)
DS-2CD2387G2-LSU/SL - latest version is 5.7.12

I wouldn't expect a firmware upgrade to resolve the issues but best to ensure you're on the current versions to rule that out.
