My DVR hard drive keeps failing?

Hi,
I have a DS-7204HUUHI-K1-P. Every time I put a new Hard drive in, it works for a day, and then I get an HDD Exception message on my app.
I do not have a contract and can't keep buying a hard drive each time.
Can I buy a new Hik box and plug the camera into any unit, or do I need to buy from a dealer?
Any advice will be much appreciated.
Regards Justin

That's unusual, there's something amiss there. Are you using recommended hard drives models and sizes? These would be Seagate Surveillance/Skyhawk, Western Digital Purple, or Toshiba S300. Others are compatible but most companies tend to sell the NVRs with the above. Once installed you must go into storage management and initialise (format) the drive; I assume you're doing that.

Even if you're not using a recommended drive I wouldn't expect a drive to fail regularly. Maybe check/replace the SATA cable inside the DVR. It could also be a defective power supply so it might be worth checking/replacing that.

Yes and no. It's a DVR so it's simple to buy another Hikvision DVR and plug the cameras in. Your existing DVR is a HUHI-K1/P. The /P denotes it's a PoC (Power over Coax) model. If your cameras are PoC then the new DVR must also be a /P model. I'd recommend another HUHI or better as your current one will accept cameras up to 5 megapixel.

Hi, Thanks. I have always used a genuine Seagate 1TB and initialised it after installation. It works fine for a day, and then when checking it the next day, the HHD has a red warning. I have looked at the 2MP HILOOK HIKVISION DVR 4, 8, 16CH DVR-204G-F1. I guess it should be as simple as plugging the cables in.

The Hi Look models are a downgrade. You would be better off with the same as you have now. You say 'genuine seagate' but is is Seagate Surveillance/Seagate Skyhawk. Standard disks are not rated for continuous 24/7 recording. Do you have the hard disk set to overwrite? If not it may be simply filling up. Go into the maintenance section of the DVR menu and go through the logs to see what's going on. It's possible but I doubt the DVR is faulty. Try a replacement power supply.

I bought a 2TB HDD 3.5" SATA Seagate SkyHawk 256MB Cache Hard Drive. Like I said, it worked fine for a day. I will have a look at the continuous running, but it shouldn't fill up with just one camera in a day. Any idea what I should buy for a replacement DVR?

This is the third time; when I first bought it, I had no issue for years, and then one day, the hard drives kept failing, which made me think the DVR was the problem.

As said - it could be a failing power supply.

iDS-7204HUHI-M1/P - newer higher performance version of your current model with AcuSense Human/Vehicle filtering, or
iDS-7204HTHI-M1/P - as above but will take cameras up to 8 megapixel if you plan to upgrade in the future
