Motion settings help required

I currently have the DS-2CD2142FWD-I Dome camera and the online help wording is not the same as the cameras menu wording. For example the online help says 'Slide the cursor to adjust the sensitivity and proportion of object on the area for the selected area' however, the online camera configuration menu says 'Sensitivity and Percentage'? What exactly is proportion of object? Does this mean that if the camera detects the motion of a moving object, it will only record if it sees a certain percentage of that object? In my opinion if the camera sees a change within a static image i.e. motion, it should record, otherwise you may have intruders and the camera will not record!

I currently have day and night set to 90% Sensitivity and Percentage set to 100%, I am experimenting with these settings as I do not want it recording all day when the image it is looking at is static with barely any motion unless a person or animal enters the cameras viewing area.

What do you set your motion settings to?

Steve.

Hi Steve,

I'd recommend bringing your cameras up to the latest firmware version, the 2142 is from the R6 Family, so latest firmware is V5.50:
DOWNLOAD PORTAL

The online help built into the camera's firmware should be correct.

Unfortunately, the camera manuals available to us aren't always brought up to the latest version to match the camera's latest firmware and features i.e. the latest user manual available at hikvision.com for your 2142 camera is for firmware version V5.30:

There are no correct/standard settings, you do have to adjust and 'walk test' to try to optimise VMD. It is virtually impossible to perfect e.g. 100% no false alerts / 100% correct detection of intruders. Many people have moved to other options such as 'line crossing' detection as an alternative (which may work better in certain conditions).

In case it helps, here is a V5.4.5 user manual for HikVision network cameras:

And here is a V5.5.0 user manual for HikVision IP cameras:
http://www.hikvision.com//uploadfil...neUserManualofNetworkCameraV5.5.020170731.pdf

NB
Not all features are enabled in all camera models via firmware update e.g. the newer manuals will mention the h.265+ CODEC, but this is not available in camera models prior to this year's EasyIP 3.0 range (2XX5).

Thank Phil, camera is already on latest firmware which is where I got the text 'proportion of object' whilst the actual menu says 'Percentage'. I am conducting trials and will eventually reach a satisfying result.

Steve.
