I've got a 7608NI-I2/82 on FW 4.1.63. Today I was fooling around with the minimum and maximum size settings in both intrusion detection and line crossing in an attempt to reduce false alarms from cats, possums, motion lights at night, etc. Has anyone used these settings with success? Seems like these settings have more potential for fine tuning than the sensitivity and threshold settings for this purpose.

Yes, having configured these recently I can confirm that they do help to reduce the number of false alarms but don't eliminate them.

Min and max size definitely help. A few things that helped me reduce false alerts/prevented alerts:
  • Camera and NVR firmware current
  • H.264 works better than H.265, in my testing
  • Reducing the DNR helped
  • Reducing the Max Bitrate helped
  • Keeping the camera lens clean
  • Shadows can play a factor in not triggering alerts (especially for line crossing)
It really takes fine tuning as you said.

After a few days of testing, the min/max size is definitely helping a ton. Last night was the first time I had zero false alerts since installing the system a week ago.
