Help!

Went to my dads to add a new camera to his DS-7708NI-I4/8p before i did anything i noticed it was on software, 4.51.005, so updated, went online said certain models had issues with serial numbers, they started 599 or something, wasn’t this, this one starts 5577 so ok, planned to go in steps with browser history deleted between each step. Went in the following 4.51.025 then 4.60.000, then it went into boot issue just rebooting.

Ran around panicking for 2 hours.

Then unplaugged the cameras, HDD and the internal battery, it stopped rebooting. Downgraded to 4.52.025, then some cameras said no resources, so went back to where i started 4.51.005, still 3 out of 5 cameras came up no resources if you looked at recordings, but 2 out of the 5 worked fine, all 5 worked perfect on live view and said they were recording.

Reset and defaulted the NVR twice, however i felt it didn’t do a full default as the screen layout of the HDMI appeared still to be setup the way I previously had it.

Waiting a long time to see if anything changed its not, all cameras say they are recording, but only 2 are. I initialised the HDDs, no change. The cameras are self assigned from the rear POE points, so i moved one of the problem ones from port 1 to port 8, comes up buy doesn’t record, when it says it is, plugged the new camera id planned to fit into the port 1 comes up and works fine, but doesn’t record when its saying it is, when i go to the recordings just get the big “no resource” message, any ideas?

The message i get when i try and view certain cameras that have so called recorded, as i say some still work fine.

I’ve kept reading, the problem range was apparently those starting 589 this one starts 557 hence me believing everything will be ok. Mine is a 2018 Model if i’m reading correctly 27 11 2015 is backwards of this 0820151127 which it says on it.

When I add the cameras manually rather than allowing the port D1 etc to assign the camera it appears to be more stable. It will sit and record for hours and hours so I would guess days. You can go on the app and look at history, but do it for too long and it just resets, same on the unit, can go into the GUI change settings look at information, after doing that for a few minutes (not a particular thing) it falls over and reboots. But leave it and it’ll record happily.

I got the nerve to update 1 version 4.51.006 this morning, sat happy for 2 hours, I looked on the app and did a bit of playback and after a bit it fell over and rebooted, left it a while and it was all good, went to login with just merely the GUI PIN code and immediately fell over and reset, when it did I tried to go to the menu with the GUI pin and this time it’s fine for 15 seconds and then locks up faster than the previous 4.51.005 did, any ideas, should I roll it back to a version earlier that the 4.51.005 that it’s worked on fine for years??

Any ideas please, 4 hours drive to get back to this if I have to do anything in person before I leave today. (Have a Remote Desktop setup however)

Rolled back to 4.50.010, that didn’t solve it. Went back to 4.51.005, hard reset it and noticed when i had the port 1, 3, and 4 cameras unplugged, it was significantly more stable, these camera have been problematic since the update yesterday, out came the ladders, checked the cables with a cheep tester, all fine, its worked well for me over the years. Plug D1 in (8mp 2385) reset the camera and add as an inactive camera, NVR resets and then is fairly stable, then 30 minutes later add D3 again reset the camera, it is fairly stable, go to look on the anpr to see plates its picked up, crashed, then ok. Add D4 (8mp 2385) unstable, crash’s a lot, so plugged it into D8 my last spare, crashed just as bad.

When i look in cameras playback and these 3 say they are not recording and show “no resource” message on playback when you log into the NVR but on an iPad they work fine and you can play back, then notice bit rate on these camera is unlike others and custom and high, turn to normal and set at max 3074 and then just went and set them set at 256+ so it does it all for me. The 2385 4mp and 2386 8mp work fine. Think there’s an issue caused by these updates and not been cleared by rolling back and it’s affecting decoding.

I’ve sold all my spares recently so not got the balls to plow through the updated all the way to the latest (10 updates) as maybe the boot cycles was to do with something the update did to the cameras?

Anyone any thoughts.

Hi @fin ... never had a DS-7708NI-I4/8p (77 I series) NVR so I'm not familiar with the "certain models had issues with serial numbers" issue... I imagine that could be the rebooting issue maybe.

I read though your posts here and the only thing I can think of is you started out:

Went to my dads to add a new camera to his DS-7708NI-I4/8p

Did you add the new camera... I see the NVR has 80Mbps incoming bandwidth... could the "no resource" message be caused by lack of incoming bandwidth? How many cameras do you have connected and what are the maximum bitrates for each one?

Thanks for your response, I appreciate any help, at points over this weekend, the ‘no resource’ message was not an issue, the current setting re as the photos

To be fair, it all went wrong as soon as I did the software update before I added any cameras, and it’s existing ones that were the problem.

Initially they were as the attachment, I backed the down and put to 256+, it was only 3 cameras that were like this.

Looks like you are well within 80Mbps... figured it was a longshot... and as you say it seems like all went wrong with the firmware update :(
