How to add a DS-2CD1643G2-IZ camera to a DS-7608NI-SE/P nvr

Hi,
to replace a DS-2CD2632F-I camera for a DS-7608NI-SE/P nvr I bought a DS-2CD1643G2-IZ camera.
I activated the camera using SADP software and I connected it to the nvr but it does not work: in the cameras list I see the error "La rete non è raggiungibile" that is more or less "Network not reachable".
I'm not sure what this error means since I can connect to the camera with a browser (when the camera is connected directly to a POE switch in the lan).
The new camera is configured to use H264 codec at a resolution 1920x1080 and max bit rate 4096 kbps.
Reading this forum (post "DS-7608NI-SE/P and H265"), I configured the authentication to Digest/Basic but nothing changed.

Anyone has a suggestion to solve this problem?

Thanks.

Hi @StefanoB

When you get the "Network not reachable" message, is the camera connected to the PoE switch on the LAN or directly to the PoE ports on the NVR?

Thanks @StefanoB

The PoE ports on the NVR use a different subnet IP range from your LAN IP range, so if you first set up your camera on the LAN, it won't be reachable if you then move it to the PoE ports.

You will need to hard reset the camera to inactive and then plug it into the NVR PoE port, then (as long as the port/channel is set to Plug & Play) the camera will automatically be activated and assigned a correct IP address from the NVRs subnet IP range.

Thank you @Dan.

The first thing I did after taking the camera out of the box was to connect it to the DVR but it did not work, I get another message that now I don't remember, but it was not possible to add the new camera.
So I took a step back and ....RTFM.... with SADP I activated the camera setting an admin password. To do this I connected the camera to a POE switch on the lan to get it ON and reachable from my PC.
Then I connected it again to the DVR and I could add it setting its new admin password.
At this point I get the "Network not reachable" message.
So i took the old camera (not completely dead) and I connected it to the lan together with the new one and using the browser I tried to compare the two to find differences.
I changed resolution and max bit rate.
I also disabled DHCP and set an IP address in the right subnet, the same of the other cameras, so it seems strange to me that the problem is the IP address.

How can I hard reset the camera?

Okay,

Don't worry about hard resetting, the issue is likely to do with the age of the NVR compared to the new camera.

The newer Hikvision camera models require a strong password for them to be activated via Plug & Play and it is likely that your older NVR model doesn't have this configured.

The quickest way to get the camera added directly to the NVRs PoE port would be to do the following:

1) Reconnect the camera to the separate PoE switch on your LAN
2) Go into the NVR camera management menu and confirm an IP address on the subnet range not currently being used (e.g. if all the currently used addresses are something like 192.168.1.254.2 to .254.9 you can use 192.168.254.10 or .254.11)
3) Take that available IP address and using SADP change the new camera's IP address to this available subnet IP address
4) Once the address has been changed, unplug the cameras from the switch and plug it into an available PoE port on the NVR
5) In the camera management NVR menu, select the channel that corresponds to the port of the new camera (e.g. D1 = port 1)
6) Click edit on that channel, switch the channel from Plug & Play to Manual, and then enter the new IP address you set for that camera and the camera's password

Once you've done this and clicked save/modify the camera should now be connected and online.

Thanks Dan.
Yes, this new camera require a stronger password than the one set in the dvr.

I tried to do what you suggested, that is similar to what I did.
The old cameras have addresses from 192.168.254.2 to 192.168.254.9 so this new camera has IP 192.168.254.30.
Using a browser I can reach the new camera at 192.168.254.30.
Then in the dvr on channel 6 (where I connect the new camera) I change the Adding Method to Manual to set the IP and also the password.
Unfortunately all this did not change the result: "Network not reachable".

So I connected the old camera to the dvr on channel 6 setting the Adding Method to Plug&Play: I was sure that the camera would be recognized and connected but I was wrong.
The first message was "camera non present" so I set Adding Method to Manual and I changed the IP to 192.168.254.7, the old camera IP.
Other error message: "Wrong user or password", so I changed manually the password to the old one to get again the message "Network not reachable".
So now it seems that also the old camera can not be connected to the dvr.

Perhaps the problem is in the dvr; I'm not sure if I can "reset" the dvr port in some way, it is strange to me that I can't connect the old camera...

PS: I have also updated the new camera firmware to the latest version.

Thank you @Dan.

Will the update keep the current configuration? Will the other 7 old cameras (DS-2CD2632F-I) still work?
If something goes wrong, is there a way to recover?

Hi @Dan,

reading other post in this forum I found one about firmware and using the sw HiToolsDelivery I found a firmware for my dvr, but it is the V3.0.15_150528, older than the one you suggested me.

Do you think it is safe to update directly to the newer one or it is better a two step upgrade (first 3.0.15 and then 3.0.22)?

Hi @StefanoB

We would recommend you do it in two steps because, with the age of the NVR, it will reduce the risk of issues/glitches after the updates.

I think it is unlikely that you will lose any substantial amount of your configuration, if you are worried about this you can export the current configuration in the NVR maintenance menu.

OK @Dan,

I will update the dvr in two steps.

What I'm worried about is the possibility to brick the dvr. Is there an "emergency guide" to recover a bricked Hikevision dvr?

Thanks.

Hi @StefanoB

Speaking with my colleagues they agree with me that it is very unlikely that updating this firmware would brick your NVR.

Cameras/NVRs only end up bricked if they are loaded with the wrong firmware (you are using the firmware recommended by HiTools so not a problem) and in the rare cases we have seen it happen it has only been with very old camera models.

The only method we are aware of for 'unbricking' a device is the TFTP method.

Hi @Dan,

I have update the dvr and it still works! ....but not the camera...

I have updated the dvr first to version 3.0.15.
The first thing that happened after the restart was a pop up windows asking for a stronger password.
So I changed the dvr admin password.
Then I had to update also the old cameras' passwords.
At this point I connected the new camera to the dvr but it did not work like before.
Using the web interface, I connected to the new camera and I made a factory reset.
Then I had to use SADP software to activate the camera and to set a valid IP.
I also changed resolution, bit rate and authentication using the camera web interface.
All this does not solve the problem, the camera is not connected.

So I updated the dvr to version 3.0.22.
The problem remains.
The error, with the camera connected to the dvr, is: "The IP camera does not exist", for me a strange error...
If the camera is not connected to the dvr, the error is: "Network unreachable. Check the network connection between NVR and IP camera.", this sounds reasonable, of course.

Do you have any suggestions for getting this camera to work?

Thanks

Here. Do this with Batch Configuration tool on camera. It will disable modern security and it will use old security protocols.
