Hikvision Plugin Problems?

Hello, I have found myself back with the good old fashioned traditional problem of the WebServiceComponents plugin not working properly.

My system has a DS-7716NI-E4/16P NVR which is **FULLY UPDATED** to the most recent firmware, a DS-6704HUHI-K which as far as I'm aware there are no firmware updates available for, then the cameras are DS-2CD2347G2H-LISU/SL, DS-2CD2555FWD-I, DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3, DS-2DE4220IW-DE.

Up until about 2 weeks ago I didn't have any problems (a term I use loosely, because the webpage video feed for the 2A404IW mini-ptz for a while would only work if the page was viewed in IE Mode within Edge, then out of nowhere it suddenly stopped working and now only works if the page is NOT viewed in IE Mode.... because that's obviously what's going to happen, a complete flip around for no reason) - but now I have this strange split when it comes to trying to view either video playback or the live feed on the webpage UI, which includes trying to adjust settings such as altering the intrusion zone area for example:-
  • DS-2CD2347G2H-LISU/SL, DS-2CD2555FWD-I, DS-2DE2A404IW-DE3
    - these work fine in *normal* Edge browser without IE mode, but they do NOT work in IE Mode... the DS-2DE mini-PTZ used to work in IE mode.
  • DS7716NI-E4 NVR, DS-2DE4220IW-DE ptz, DS-6704HUHI-K
    - previously these *used to work* in "IE Mode" within Edge browser, but now they do not and they do not work in normal Edge browser or any other browser
This problem is not for want of trying the various workarounds to get the video feeds and plugin to work.... I have the IP address of the NVR including all it's sub-addresses used for Virtual Host PoE-connected devices set within Edge settings to automatically load in IE Compatiability Mode; I have used Internet Settings to manually add all these pages to the "Trusted Zone" which did for a while see the plugin work fine every time I loaded the page (and got rid of the old "please click here to download and install the plugin" message); I have gone through settings to make sure every mention of ActiveX for these pages is either set to 'Allow' or 'Prompt' so that nothing gets blocked in that regard; I have tried both with and without Javascript controls blocked.... I have even tried a cheeky little hack by means of creating a little VBscript file that opens up the native version of Internet Explorer which hides away deep in the bowels of Windows 10/11 so I can access the web UI without even going through Edge browser at all..... yet none of these now work for the three aforementioned devices. If I download the plugin from the webpage of these devices then the video plugin for the DS-2CD2347, DS-2CD2555 and DS-2DE2A404 mini-ptz all stops working instead - horay! So obviously then I go to the webpage for the 2347 and it prompts me to download the plugin which then gets those working again but still not the problem devices. Changing the 'plug-in type' option at the bottom of the Live View page does nothing - I have never had the Quicktime, VLC, or MJPEG plugins ever work despite having the full programs with plugins installed on the PC.

I don't even get the "live view failed" message anymore, the page just sits there with a blank box where the plugin should be.

I genuinely cannot understand why this is such a problem. HTML5 video was introduced to the internet approximately an entire ice age ago, yet Hikvision still insists on using an antiquidated plugin that clearly does not work properly. Chrome does not support this plugin, Firefox does not support this plugin, and now it looks like Edge is half-in and half-out with it.....

.... so is there an actual working solution that I have not yet tried?
There is a bit of footage from one camera that I'd like to download to my PC before the footage is wiped in just under 3 weeks' time, but obviously I can't do it directly because the NVR is one of the devices which the plugin isn't working for (and all my USB sticks are currently full with data being used for other applications right now)

Unfortunately it’s an NVR that has been obsolete for years now and the most recent firmware is not recent at all. Your best bet for doing anything with the NVR is to use the ivms-4200 software.

To prevent footage being lost/overwritten you can lock the file on the NVR. That can be done during playback, or on that version 3 UI you should be able to list the files on the HDD on the file management menu and lock them there.
