Recently in the office we have been getting a flood of emails/questions regarding the use of external microphones with HikVision models with the abbreviation 'S' at the end of the model number. We are looking to stock the best microphone and will soon add them to our webshop.
Yesterday we tested a microphone that has a PSU as it power and wired the microphone to the camera using the 'linemic' and 'gndmic' from the camera. We did a brief check of the settings and the microphone worked fine. We want to test whether we could do video and audio recording on the 4 most popular means of recording available for this camera. Below I will list the methods and what the results were.
Any further updates will be added to this post.

- Synology NAS Box (DS411j): Video and audio recording works perfect on the latest firmware and package download.
- Qnap Viostor (4008 Pro): Only video worked using a different camera model number. (Qnap have promised an update to add more HikVision cameras to compatibility soon. This could be next week or 6 months down the line.)
- SD card recording/local Pc recording: Works perfect, easy and simple.
- HikVisions own NVR (7608NI): As expected, works perfect. Easiest method for the plug and play attribute.
