Just wanted to say thanks for the email reminder to update NVR and camera firmware. Due to the risks involved I only tend to update firmware on devices when security is involved or the device is not performing properly. This was one of those occasions when I deemed it necessary to upgrade the NVR and camera so I thought I would share my experiences as it wasn't that straightforward. My DS-7604NI-E1-4P NVR upgraded quite easily using my Firefox browser and the correct downloaded digicap file. I couldn't find a way of upgrading the DS-2CD2342WD-I camera firmware as its connected POE and can't therefore be detected on that side of the NVR LAN. To upgrade the camera I had to download the correct R6 series digicap file, unzip it, copy it to a USB stick and put the memory stick in the front port of the NVR as the rear port is in use by my mouse. Using the direct access software embedded in the NVR and a separate monitor I selected the camera option and browsed to the digicap file on the USB stick. I selected the Upgrade button and an egg timer symbol appeared. That stayed up for about 5 minutes with no progress reports but at the end of the process it did say it had succeeded. It was then necessary to reboot the NVR manually to pick up the new camera firmware. Hope this helps others who may also have found the procedure a little complicated.
