DS-KH6320-WTE1 would not view ONVIF cameras

Hello,
I have a DS-KV81130-WME Doorbell with DS-KH6320-WTE1 indoor station and a few generic IP cameras that work with my hikvision nvr. This doorbell has the option to add either IP cameras using hikvision protocol or generic ONVIF protocol, however no matter what I do, the device would always report Authentication failed when using onvif protocol (I know that the credentials are correct because my nvr is working just fine with them). One thing I noticed is that I have no way of selecting the onvif port (although the cameras as set to use port 80 which is the standard). I even tried adding the doorbell as an onvif camera in the indoor station (same way I use it to record from it on my nvr) and it would still complain about bad credentials.

I've updated the software from it's original 2022 firmware (that came with it oob) up to 241111 (V2.2.96), and they all had the same issue, I tried with iVMS and still the same issue.

Any help with this would be appreciated, I would love to check the cameras on my home from this device without going through the nvr.

Hi @midisama - you need to enable ONVIF on most cameras and create an ONVIF user(username and password), and then use those user credentials to add the camera via ONVIF.

For new Hikvision cameras, you can create an ONVIF user in Configuration>Network>Platform Access>ONVIF:

For older Hikvision cameras, you do it in Configuration>Network>Advanced Settings>Integration Protocol:

For third-party cameras, you should find the option somewhere in the network settings.

Have you done this already?

Correct, my cameras already have onvif enabled and are already operational with my nvr, so they're properly set up. I can access their webgui and all. The credentials i used are simple (for now) to check if I did something wrong.

It might be that the password created for the ONVIF profile is too simple - we've seen this cause problems before - it's worth trying something more secure (with letters, numbers and special characters). Have you created an ONVIF user for the cameras, which is different to the normal default admin user?

What make and model are the cameras?

When you say you're trying to add them to the doorbell, do you mean you're adding them to the DS-KH6320-WTE1 indoor station or the DS-KV8113-WME1 doorbell?

at first they were complex passwords, with special characters and longer than 8 characters, I thought that it might be having issues with said characters, so I simplified it to letters and numbers (temporarily) for this test.

The cameras are generic chinese ones that I had, they work perfectly with my hikvision nvr.

The 8113 doorbell supports Hik Protocol and ONVIF, and since it works fine as a doorbell for my indoor station, how about I add it as an onvif camera and test it. It didn't work with ONVIF protocol and complained about Authentication issues, however when I switch to hik protocol with the same username and password, it works immediately, which leads me to believe that this might be an issue with the onvif implementation in this indoor station. I used my computer with an onvif explorer and it worked fine with the doorbell with protocol.

OK, so you trying to connect the cameras to the DS-KH6320-WTE1?
If so, this won't work, as you can only add cameras to an indoor station.
The doorbell supports ONVIF, but this is only for adding the doorbell to an NVR (and not for adding cameras to the doorbell).

Yes I am trying to ass cameras to my indoor station, they work with the onvif protocol, but none of them would show up on the device with the error (Authentication failed) when it clearly is not the case.

I'm not certain that you can actually add ONVIF cameras to the indoor stations, as all of the instructions I've found specify using the 'HIK protocol' only.
E.g. see section 2.3.5 in this manual.

Also, if you look at the datasheet here, it doesn't state that the indoor station is ONVIF conformant anywhere.
Unless somebody else here can verify that you can add cameras to intercoms via ONVIF.

However, the NVRs do, which is why the cameras are probably working on that.

The only other thing I can suggest is making sure that your cameras have H.264 encoding set for the camera streams, and that the resolution is not set above 1280x720 for the sub stream.
