I’m using a 6tb western digital purple in my nvr with 8x 8mp colour vu cams

My issue will be the noise of the hard drive constantly whirring away …
which in my property at the moment is absolutely fine because the nvr is in a back room cupboard …

however my new property the nvr will have to be either in a utility or 4th bedroom (office) …
So my question is are there any different types of hard drive alternatives which are silent that are ok to use with my nvr … ?

Failing this my only other option is to put the nvr into the garage… but I’m not sure on how the nvr will cope with being exposed to extreme cold winters and hot summers

It's usually the cooling fan that makes most noise - not so much the drives - you can use an SSD for a silent drive, but they tend to fail a little more often.

I think my next move is to take the lid off the nvr and see what’s making the most noise !
Are ssd just plug and play

On my DS-7616NI-M2 .... yes, my SATA SSDs were plug & format & play. You'll need to figure out a way to hold them in place so they don't flop around. But power cable + SATA cable just plug in & go.

The loudest noise will be your fan. Find a quieter one like, Noctua A4x20 FLX or A4x10 FLX. Google or YouTube it. I mounted my new one, about 1 1/2 inches away from the vent holes (vs adjacent to the vent holes). For me, made a big difference.

Thanks for your reply… il get one and give it a go

if it helps..... I could have fabricated a fancy bracket to offset the new fan from the vent holes. But why go to all that trouble ?

I found that some "hook & loop" velcro (aka double sided velcro) worked just as well. Used it to hold both the new fan & SSDs in place. Sometimes simple is better (or just as good).

Warranty ? what's that ? :) :) :)

I see what you mean … it’s not like I’m moving it about all the while! once it’s placed and wired up I’m not going to touch it !
