Hello all,

Could any1 recommend a camera that would be:
  • Good night vision
  • No IR to attrack attention
  • dome (so that it wouldnt be broken with the first hit by a hammer)
  • black case colors are even better
Basically, something that would be good at 10-20ft/3-6m distance, at night time. It will be installed in a garage which has no lighting at night. Wouldnt like the camera to send infrared, cause it would be like a red flag for a bull.
Thanks!

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the reply. Will disabling the IR Led right also stop the nightvision from working correctly? If the burglar will use his own headlamp, for example, should any of the cams be able to catch that?

If the LEDs are disabled, the camera will still provide its best effort night-time performance.
Stay in colour until light levels are too low to provide colour, then switch to monochrome.
The ColorVu models have the best native low-light performance.
ColorVu cameras have built-in white LEDs.
All other ranges have built-in infra-red LEDs.
Yes, any of the cameras will take advantage of any available light e.g. garden lights or torches.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Are there any models, that you could recommend right off the bat?
Does it make sense to try and look into the direction of the DarkFighter series of Hikvision? Or any other ip cam, that I am not aware of, but could be worth looking at? Thanks!

It's an unusual line of approach - we'd normally recommend a flat dome with infra-red on.
Flat domes have IR to 10m - not too powerful for indoors.

The aim is to keep a low profile as possible, so even hiding the camera from the eyesight. Cause there is a chance, that the person would try to disassemble the cam and take it away with him. The garage is in a separate building, quite some distance away from home. Thats why the strange thinking is in place.
