Hello,

I'm hoping someone can help. I had 3 Hikvision cameras and an NVR installed in October 2018. Everything has been working great until we upgraded the routers yesterday to a Whole Home Mesh Wifi System yesterday. I have managed to get the NVR online and can see the 2 camera connected directly to it but not the front door camera.

The original setup was; 2 cameras front and back of house into the NVR in the loft. The NVR was then connected to a Wifi Powerline hotspot. The last camera was at the front door which went straight into the cupboard which houses the router. It plugged straight into the router and the other Wifi Powerline plugs into the router as well.

The setup now; 2 cameras front and back of house into the NVR in the loft. The NVR is now connected into one of the Nodes directly (Secondary). The last camera was at the front door which goes straight into the cupboard and into the primary node. The front door camera Is visible but can only be viewed via HikConnect when on the network at home but hasn’t been recording at all.

The NVR is recording but again not viewable when away from home.

Any ideas?

I'm not convinced that these wi-fi mesh systems (or any wi-fi network) are ideal for mission-critical security systems. I have a Linksys Velop tri-band mesh system and while it did improve my wi-fi signal around the house, it still wasn't a strong signal at the end of the line, it fluctuated a lot and was susceptible to conflict degradation especially in the 5GHz spectrum.

I have now hard-wired my mesh nodes together with Cat6 and I'm getting the full router speed at every node via ethernet and a strong, steady wi-fi signal from each node which is approx 65% of the ethernet speed.

What speed and signal strength (RSSI) are you getting at your nodes? Any RSSI worse than -70 needs to be fixed - either by moving the node to a better position to receive the signal or by hardwiring nodes together. You might also try turning off Node Steering if you have that option.

If you can, I would run a test cable from the NVR directly into the router. If that solves your issues, use the test cable to connect your mesh nodes directly to the primary node. If that solves your problem, you might have to permanently hard-wire them together (or swap your mesh system for a better one).

But the fact that your ethernet-connected front door camera is also malfunctioning suggests there may be an issue with port forwarding. If your new router config isn't defaulting to the correct port for the camera, change it to match. Or you may have to change your camera's HTTP port number and after rebooting it, log into your router and reconfigure port forwarding to reflect the new number.

Have you powered down your Powerline wi-fi hotspots as they could now be conflicting with your mesh?

The solution will be in this thread, in the Post before the one I am linking you to:
