Lux Levels

We often get asked about the low light performance of the IP cameras that we sell and whether a tiny difference between lux levels is noticeable.

Lux levels are quoted by all IP camera manufacturers to give an indication of the low light performance of the camera.

The problem is that telling our customers that a camera has a 0.01 or 0.0001 lux level isn't particularly helpful as these numbers mean nothing to most of us...

We decided to create the below lux lookup chart to try and give a visual representation of what these lux levels actually mean :).

Cameras with built in infra-red will state that the lux level is 0 (complete darkness) with IR switched on so lux levels aren't a huge concern unless you're using a camera without IR.

So, is a tiny difference in the lux levels noticeable?

The short answer is no. ;)

Don't let lux levels hugely influence your choice of camera. It's very difficult to notice the difference between cameras with a performance rated at less than 0.01 lux!

We hope this helps to clear up some questions you might have about lux levels, please feel free to contact us if there is anything else you'd like to know :D.
