Hi, this is my first post, I had a Zip Vision ccctv system installed 2 years ago by a professional company, its all working fine, a little bit touch and go on the app.. however one of the cameras started to fog up, I contacted the installer, he said occasionally this happens, a week later a second one fogged up, I took this one down and dried it out and refitted it inside the building, its working fine now.. however I cant do this with the other.. so I am buying a Hikvision camera of similar spec, and plugging that into my system.. will the recorder pick the new camera up automatically, or will I need to somehow find it in the controls?

Hi @ERF

The Hikvision camera is unlikely to be recognised automatically by the 3rd-party Zip NVR.

You will likely need to connect the Hikvision camera to your local network using a separate PoE Injector/Switch and then enable the camera with the Hikvision SADP Tool.

You can then either leave the camera connected to the separate PoE Injector/Switch and add it to the NVR using its local network IP address, or you can use SADP to change the Hikvision camera's IP address to one that is on the same IP range as the NVR uses for the directly connected Zip cameras (e.g. If your local network IP range is 192.168.1.xxx and the NVR uses 192.168.5.xxx for the directly connected cameras, you would need to change the Hikvision camera's IP address to a 192.168.5.xxx address).

Once you change the IP address of the Hikvision camera, you can unplug it from the PoE Injector/Switch and reconnect the camera to the NVR PoE ports, then you can use that new IP address you set on the camera to manually add it to the NVR.

Personally, when connecting cameras and NVRs from different manufacturers, we would go with the first option of keeping the Hikvision camera on a separate PoE Injector/Switch because it's easier to set up and you can log directly into the camera to adjust camera-specific settings and update firmware (which can't do if the camera is directly connected to the NVR PoE ports).

Thank you, the set up at the moment is, I have a bridge between the office and the building, there is a multi Poe switch in the building to which the cameras are connected too, there are additional slots.. the cameras around the office I believe connected directly too the NVR.

Great,

If you already have a PoE switch with some cameras connected to it, you can connect the replacement Hikvision camera to this switch and then add the camera to the NVR over the local network as an ONVIF device.
