Hikvision iVMS 5200 Professional Software
In the last few years, Hikvision have been extremely popular in the residential and small-medium sized business sectors. Their cameras and NVRs are very cost-effective, and the basic iVMS 4200 desktop software and iVMS 4500 mobile apps are bundled in for free, which is fine for these sectors and ideal for single-site systems.

Now, Hikvision are offering a paid-for Server/Client VMS solution called iVMS 5200 Professional to target medium to large scale installations. It offers a much wider set of features typical of rival VMS solutions, including remote central management of all connected servers and devices, third-party camera support and smart analytics. iVMS 5200 is ideal for multi-site or multi-server installations, so if your business is thinking about expanding or you're considering an overhaul of an existing system then you should definitely keep iVMS 5200 Pro in mind.

iVMS 5200 Pro is a modular system, which means you can add further functionality based on your requirements. At the moment, iVMS 5200 Pro has five optional add-ons including LPR and point-of-sale (PoS) functionality which will be explored below. More modules will become available in the future.

Until very recently, iVMS 5200 was not available in the UK.

We're pleased to say that iVMS 5200 Pro and both the LPR and Mobile Video Surveillance modules are available right now on our webshop.

A 30-day free trial is also available for iVMS 5200 Pro in order for you to try out the software. There are very few limitations in the trial, so it's a good way to check and see whether the software is going to suit your needs before committing.

We'll cover the key features of iVMS 5200 below.
NOTE - We used iVMS 5200 Professional v3.3.2 as a reference. Subsequent updates may have removed, introduced or changed functionality.

Licensing structure

iVMS 5200 Pro base license is available with a number of different camera licenses included, based on how large your system is, up to a maximum of 10,240 supported channels.
  • iVMS 5200 Pro base license + 16 camera channels
  • iVMS 5200 Pro base license + 32 camera channels
  • iVMS 5200 Pro base license + 64 camera channels
  • iVMS 5200 Pro base license + 128 camera channels
  • iVMS 5200 Pro base license + 256 camera channels
These selectable options are all available on our iVMS 5200 Pro base license product page.

It is possible to add individual camera licenses (and indeed any number of licenses) to your existing iVMS 5200 system painlessly - simply add the newly generated camera license to your existing license and the two will merge. There is no need to reconfigure your existing system, or change your original license. It's a seamless process that should make expansion quick and easy.

You can purchase individual iVMS 5200 camera licenses to add to your existing system, based on your requirements.

This also ties in to the modular structure Hikvision have taken which I mentioned above. iVMS 5200 Professional is a modular system. This means you can tailor the solution to your own personal requirements. Don't need LPR? No problem, simply don't purchase the LPR module. Would Mobile Video Surveillance not be necessary? Same story, you don't have to buy it!

This can help to significantly save costs, and means that you'll be able to pick and choose new modules once they're developed. For example, an Access Control module for iVMS 5200 is set to be released in Q4 2016, so if you think this feature may be of use to your system then you can simply add it to your existing iVMS 5200 license once it is released. No need to reconfigure the old system either, simply configure the new features and away you go.

Furthermore, all licenses are currently perpetual and do not require an annual renewal fee. This is huge - rival VMS solutions that charge annual support license fees can quickly escalate costs far beyond the initial cost of the system itself in just a few years.

What's included in the base license?

The iVMS 5200 base (or core) license contains both the Video Surveillance module and the Basic Module. Every installation of iVMS 5200 will contain these two modules - they're essential for system operation.

Basic Module

  • Logical alarm integraton (Cross-module alarm)
  • Security (User/Permission)
  • The core system architecture itself (Central Management Server, Storage Server, Stream Media Server, Remote Site Management etc.)
  • Web client / control client / mobile client / video wall client
  • Support for up to 2048 connected cameras per CMS
  • Support for up to 5 CMS servers per RSM for a total of 10,240 cameras total
  • Support for up to 100 connected Control Clients, with unlimited users.
Video Surveillance Module
  • Device management
  • Third party camera support and ONVIF support
  • Recording and related scheduling etc. to a number of connected storage servers (maximum 32 per CMS)
  • Event configuration, linkage and triggering
  • E-map integration
  • System health check and running status
  • Live streaming, alarm acknowledgement and active user management
The base license provides you with the fundamental components to remotely manage multiple sites, servers and cameras in a scaleable solution.

As mentioned above, iVMS 5200 Professional is a client / server architecture. The Central Management Server (CMS), Storage Server etc. can either be installed on individual servers or all to the same server, based on your requirements. You'd then primarily access the configuration of your system via the web client, using a web browser, and view / operate any connected devices via the control client. You can install this client to any number of different PCs to access the server.

Hikvision have also produced a free iOS and Android app called iVMS 5200 for mobile viewing, available on their respective app stores.

Users of iVMS 4200 will also welcome the more sleek and polished interface.

Similarly, the introduction of third-party camera support, and support for the ONVIF protocol, is also a great benefit over iVMS 4200, which does not have this functionality.

What add-on modules are available?

jnV9TFu.jpg

At the moment, there are five optional modules you can add-on to your iVMS 5200 system video surveillance base module, each one offering additional functionality to your system based on your application. Further modules are in development, and an access control module is due for release in Q4 2016, so keep your eyes peeled.

Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and Parking Management
The ANPR module is comprised of an ANPR management base module and a Parking management add-on module. If you want parking management functionality, you'll need the ANPR management base module too. If you only want ANPR management, you do not need to purchase the parking management add-on.

The ANPR management base module introduces license plate recognition functionality. The module reads and recognises detected plates, and also grabs a capture and related information for later analysis or interrogation. This information includes of course the license plate number itself, but also the vehicle model, logo and colour, as well as the direction it was driving (forward, reverse) during the capture.

You can then search the stored database of captured plates and snapshots via either a specific timeframe or individual plate numbers. A real-time ANPR view is available, and contextual recording around the plate capture is possible too. The latest iVMS 5200 Pro update introduces intelligent matching rule configuration, allowing you to correct wrong plate reads and create user-defined rules for future plate corrections (read a "1" as a "T" for example).

The parking management add-on expands upon this, introducing additional features ideal for parking management or access control. These include a whitelist / blacklist function which can then be used to trigger your barrier entry access control or alarm system, either automatically or manually by a security operative. You can also display the remaining parking spaces available.

Like the ANPR base module, it retains the capture, record, recognition and search functionality of number plates, as well as data reporting and exporting for analysis.

Transaction (PoS)
The Transaction (Point of Sale) add-on can be added to your video surveillance base module (your base license), allowing you to integrate your CCTV and PoS systems, ideal for retail and customer-facing scenarios.

yZACMPy.png

The transaction add-on allows you to monitor your checkout / cashier stations by displaying relevant transaction data alongside live or recorded video of the relevant corresponding camera. This transaction data can then be searched and interrogated based on invoice numbers, product being sold, time of transaction, order price or price-range etc.

The point of sale module also allows you to create alarms for loss-prevention by monitoring abnormal operations at your cashier's station. These include the cash-drawer being opened outside of working hours or indeed if it's left open, or a transaction with no customer present etc.

Business Intelligence (BI)
The business intelligence add-on is a series of tools designed to transform data into useful information for businesses for analytic purposes, allowing you to identify key products, customer flow and traffic, and also high-performing employees. Retail environments will benefit from this module in particular as it can integrate with a POS system too (please see the transaction module above), but any customer-facing environment will certainly be able to deploy and see benefits from the analytic tools offered by BI.

Some of the key analytic functions include transaction data analysis from a linked POS system, people counting, heat mapping and retail traffic analysis, allowing identification of popular products and areas of key customer interest within a retail store. For example, placing bestselling products (as determined by POS transaction analysis) within an area of frequent customer activity (as identified by the heat mapping feature) could help to drive further sales of this product, allowing faster and more efficient customer turnaround (which is visible in the people counting analytics).

The business intelligence module also includes an easy data exporting function, expediting decision-making and improving the understanding of your business and customer behaviour.

The business intelligence add-on can be added to your video surveillance module and / or your mobile video surveillance module depending on your needs. When added to your mobile video surveillance module, the BI add-on provides data on mileage statistics, network traffic and online duration of mobile cameras and DVRs.

Mobile Video Surveillance
The mobile video surveillance module introduces support for mobile video recorders and cameras typically seen within buses, taxis, police and rescue services etc.

As a GIS module, you're able to track vehicles (via built-in map support) with a mobile video recorder on board in real time. Visual customisation options are available to more easily identify individual vehicles when there are multiple vehicles tracked by your system, allowing you to track and locate the mobile video recorder.

4bZAxl6.png

Live view footage and two-way audio from the mobile video recorder is possible, as well as viewing the vehicle's historic route on the GIS map. Similarly, when the mobile video surveillance module is deployed, iVMS 5200 Pro is able to track vehicle driving patterns. An iVMS 5200 Pro operative is able to set a predefined driving patternset, and an alarm can be triggered when a vehicle strays from said predefined patterns. Playback footage can be wirelessly downloaded from the vehicle once it returns to the storage server's network.

The business intelligence add-on mentioned above is also available for the mobile video surveillance module, which can be used to provide data on mileage statistics, network traffic and online duration of mobile video recorders or cameras.
