Camera Connection issues - DS-7608NI-M2/8P V 5 Firmware

Now I will preface this with it is a distinct possibility that it's just me being stupid! NVR firmware is V5.04.066 build 250620.

Purchased a brand new DS-2CD2387G2H-LIU, it arrived yesterday, so I walk down, and plug it into the NVR's port 2, and wait. And wait, and wait. And nothing happens, no wrong password, no camera connecting, just the NVR saying risky password, and nothing else, I also tried it in port 3 and 4 with the same result. I've connected the camera to the main Network via a POE switch, and SADP finds it no issues, it gets issued an IP address via DHCP, and I can activate it. I went through all this, reset it to factory, went and plugged it back into the NVR, and still nothing?

IP internal NIC is set to 192.168.254. range, internal network is 192.168.1 range, and the NVR isn't on its own VLAN. When I click on the POE port int he NVR, and click test beside the IP address, it fails, but the camera should be getting the address via DHCP no?

I feel like I'm missing something really obvious here, any ideas?

Very strange...

If the camera was brand new and unactivated, plugging it into one of the NVRs PoE ports would activate it and assign it the NVRs admin password or default channel password if different. You've confirmed that you've reset the camera to unactivated state before trying it again so we can rule out the camera.

I'm thinking that you may have switched off (knowingly or otherwise) Plug and Play on your NVRs spare channels. The fact that it's showing 'risky password' usually indicates that plug and play is off and details for a camera may have been entered.

Unplug the camera, then on the NVR go to Device Access and click Video Device at the top. If Plug and Play is turned on, the device names for all channels should be populated with "POE 1', 'POE 2' etc with the check box to the left greyed out. If the checkbox is NOT greyed out and the device name is populated with 'Camera 01' or anything else, the channel is set for manual configuration. You'll need to check the box for any cameras that are manually configured but not showing 'online' and delete them. Once done, click 'PoE Settings' at the bottom of the page and ensure the 'Enable' box is ticked for all channels that you want to use Plug and Play on then click Save. Reconnect the unactivated camera the PoE port and you should be good.

PS: It's not likely to be you doing something stupid. The Version 5 UI is confusing at best. Enabling/Disabling in PoE settings doesn't actually turn off PoE but it does need to be disabled in order to allow you to add a manually configured IP camera on that channel (regardless of whether it is plugged in/powered from the recorder having been manually configured with an IP in the 192.168.254.xxx range, or connected to the LAN and powered locally with a LAN range IP address)

Morning, and thanks for the help with this, I have followed the steps but unfortunately didn't have any luck, the boxes in were greyed out from the start, so I tried Turing it to manual, then back to plug n play, but still no luck (and changing back to plug and play changed the IP addresses the internal NIC was giving out! In the end I connected my laptop to the NVR, rand SADP, found the two cameras on 169 range IP addresses, turned off DHCP and manually changed their IP addressed to match the NVR. It likely something to do with a lot of messing about, so I'll probably go down the route of a full wipe and restore before I reconnect everything, just to save any potential problems going forward!

I only remember that happening to me once before and I'm going back a few years so it was an older camera and NVR model. Although I use the PoE ports, I've often disabled them as detailed above to not use plug and play, and manually configured them with 192.168.254.101, 102 and so on.
