C8C + DVR: bad quality if EZVIZ app is closed?

I had some Hikvision cameras with a Hikvision DVR (not NVR), I decided to add some EZVIZ C8C (CS-C8C-A0-1F2WFL1), was able to add them to connect them to the DVR (DS-7208HQHI-K1) but always looked very pixelated. Today I realized that via the EZVIZ app they looked OK, then I look up to the monitor where I was watching a pixelated camera view 5 seconds ago and it looked great! I closed the app and it got pixelated again. Tried this a lot of times and it kept happening.

Is there a way to force the bitrate to stay at a certain level so the image doesn't pixelate when I close the EZVIZ app?
