On Hikvision NVRs (such as DS-7608NI-K2-8P) , do all the cameras have to connect directly to the PoE ports on the NVR, or can the cameras be connected to a PoE switch elsewhere and then just a single Ethernet cable connect the NVR to the switch, and PoE disabled on the NVR?

Thanks Phil, I've got full frame DSLR with pro lenses from work, so find it easier to map the FoV accurately and see what is required (2.8mm = 90 deg FoV = 18mm full frame 35mm etc).
Are they good vari-focal cctv cameras for such a situation, or would you err towards fixed lenses?
